Boone Sculpture to be Unveiled

A new sculpture by renowned artist Harry Weber is set to be unveiled during a reception hosted by the J.W. ‘Blind’ Boone Heritage Foundation on October 11, 2010 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Reynolds Alumni Center on the University of Missouri campus. This sculpture, commissioned by the Heritage Foundation, will reside on a pedestal in the Tribute Garden on the grounds of the ‘Blind’ Boone home.

The grounds of the Boone home will feature a “Merit, not Sympathy, Wins” Tribute garden and amphitheater. The garden will also provide a suitable setting for outdoor performances and recitals. A highlight of this garden will be the sculpture created by Weber. The garden will also feature pavers with engraved tributes to individuals who, like Boone, have overcome challenges in their lives or inspired others.

Weber, whose bronze sculptures have won major awards at national juried competitions, embodies the ability to bring alive his subjects with the fluid power and spontaneity shown in his 100 major and 200 smaller works.
Weber’s work appears at the Museum of Fine Arts in Newport, Rhode Island, in the Baseball Hall of Fame at Cooperstown, and in the National Dog Museum. A twice-life-size monument of Lewis and Clark on the St Louis waterfront, commemorating the bicentennial of the expedition, has been designated a National Lewis and Clark site by the Federal Parks Department.
