Black Swan playing at Ragtag

Earning favorable comparisons to both The Red Shoes and Repulsion, Black Swan is the latest tour de force from Darren Aronofsky, the director of Requiem For a Dream and The Wrestler--and the latest offering at Ragtag Cinema.

Natalie Portman stars as Nina, a skilled New York dancer who's just landed the role of prima ballerina. But as her company gears up for its opening production of Swan Lake, Nina faces tough competition from Lily (Mila Kunis), a passionate new dancer. Featuring stunning performances from Portman, Kunis, Barbara Hershey and Winona Ryder, Black Swan is an incredible psychological thriller.

"Intensity — a swirl of dread, suspense and almost tactile beauty, brought to fever pitch by Clint Mansell's Tchaikovsky-on-steroids score — is certainly what Black Swan delivers. It also builds a gaudy, gothic frame around a disturbing and virtuosic central performance, as Ms. Portman travels the spectrum from meek to monstrous and discovers a terrifying new variation on the old idea of suffering for art."
