CAL Asking for Artist Submissions

Columbia Art League's next exhibition, entitled Blue, will be from April 24 to June 23, 2012 with an opening reception on Thursday, April 26, 2012. Artwork submission dates are Friday & Saturday, April 20 & 21, 2012.

“Artists can color the sky red because they know it's blue. Those of us who aren't artists must color things the way they really are or people might think we're stupid.” Jules Feiffer, cartoonist.

Following on from the success of 2011’s ‘Red’ show, this year CAL invites artists to explore ‘Blue’. Said to be the color of the fifth chakra (the throat), blue runs the gamut of emotion, representing sadness to some and the optimism of blue skies to others. Politically it flip-flops: liberal in the US, conservative in the UK and Canada. What does it evoke to you? Whether it’s an artwork inspired by the cobalt, ultramarine or cerulean in the color box, or it’s a feeling or memory invoked semantically, in ‘Blue’ artists are invited to explore the realm of, well, blue.

Work is invited in all mediums. All work must be for sale and have been completed in the last two years. This show is open to CAL members and non-members. All work must be WIRED – we cannot hang work that does not have a wire. Artists should also make sure that their name is on the work. Artists may submit two works for consideration. Jury fees (per person, not per work) are $15 for members and $25 for non-members.
