Fire in the Sky to Relocate to The District

The City of Columbia, Parks and Recreation Department, has been working on relocating the 4th of July Fire in the Sky celebration from the stadium due to field renovations. Due to the large number of attendees, the best location for the event due to the large number of attendees has been determined to be The District.

This is a wonderful community event and we would like to see it continue.

Parks and Rec is planning to use the top of the 6th and Cherry parking garage as the fireworks shoot site, Flat Branch Park for children's activities, and Peace Park for the main stage.

As I'm sure you all know, First Night sets off fireworks in The District each New Year's Eve and Parks and Rec is currently working with police and fire on similar plan that would ensure an exciting but safe firework display.

This event is still in the planning stages and Parks and Rec is also meeting with police and fire in regards to street closures. Due to the fireworks and the amount of kids' activities, there will be requests for street closures, most likely on the streets surrounding the 6th & Cherry Garage.

Representatives from Parks and Rec are in the process of reaching out to affected business owners and more information will be presented to the CID board at the May 8 meeting at 4 p.m.
