Bike, Walk and Wheel Week!




Columbia's 11th Annual Bike, Walk and Wheel Week will be held May 12-19. Presented by Parks and Recreation and Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services, the week's events are free unless otherwise noted.  Check for details on this year's Bike, Walk and Wheel events at www.gocolumbiamo.com/ParksandRec or call the Parks and Recreation Office at 874-7460.

In addition to the detailed schedule, visitors to the web site can register for Bike, Walk and Wheel Week and be eligible to win a Parks and Recreation gift certificate.

Here's a brief rundown of events for the week:

Saturday, May 12
Confident City Cycling Class
8 am-1 pm, PedNet Office, 501 Fay Street Suite 204

Price: $50, contact Gina at PedNet at 303-1033 or visit www.pednet.org/programs/confident-city-cycling.asp to sign up for the class.

Kids Bike Safety
10 am-Noon, Shelter Insurance, 1817 West Broadway

Story Book Trail "Swirl by Swirl: Spirals in Nature" (available May 12-May 31)
Dusk to Dawn, Forum Nature Area, 2701 Forum Blvd.

Bike is Your Ticket on Transit
Bicyclists ride the city buses for FREE all week!

Secret Access Trail Ride

Brown Bag Lunch Session "I Would Bike/Walk to Work, But..."

Family Fun Fest:  Fitness is Fun!
6-8 pm at Flat Branch Park, 101 South 4th Street
Celebrate Bike, Walk & Wheel Week and learn ways to stay fit.  Join us for fun demonstrations and hands on activities for all ages.


Thursday, May 17
Try Transit Day
Everybody rides free, all day long! Bus schedules and routes are available at www.gocolumbiamo.com.

Walk the Course for $3 discount
7 am-dark, L.A. Nickell and Lake of Woods Golf Courses

Friday, May 18
Breakfast Station Day ~ National Bike to Work Day
7-9 am
Everyone is invited! Stop by and enjoy a free breakfast as you bike, walk or wheel about town.

Saturday, May 19
Trails Day; 5K Walk/Run & 10K Bike Event
9-10 am, MKT Trail Access, 800 S. Stadium Blvd (MLK Jr. Memorial)
Registration not required.

Wheelchair Wash and Roll
12-4 pm, Stephens Lake Park, corner Old Highway 63 & Broadway
Participants can enjoy a recreational roll around Stephens Lake Park. Free wheelchair detailing and snacks available for all participants. For more information, call Services for Independent Living at 874-1646.
