The Tiger Town
organizers are requesting a street closure of Eighth Street between Elm and Broadway on
the following dates:
Sept. 8: vs. Georgia
Oct. 6: vs. Vanderbilt
Oct. 13: vs. Alabama
Oct. 27: vs. Kentucky
We cannot stress enough that the details are still being set. So much of this event depends on logistics, fundraising, city input, university input, etc. We also sent a Tiger Town survey to the merchants and as soon as we get all the responses back, we'll be providing that information to the organizers.
That said, here is the most current update:
Currently
planned for the street are 2 beer tents at the intersections, a band on the
Broadway end, a hospitality tent near Locust, a children’s area (bounce houses,
face painting), adult games (like football tosses), a VIP section, some food
vendors, and a Tiger merchandise section. They are also hoping to get some
pre-game analysis by the local media. They are planning TT shuttles
to the game and a Tiger Trail where people walk from The District to the
stadium. Again, this all depends on a number of issues, including fundraising, sponsorships and logistics.
Organizers
have also decided only to have pre-game activities, likely staring 4 hours
prior to kick off. The idea was to have people return to downtown after the
game but instead of having a set event, allow them to shop or dine throughout
The District.
