Tiger Town Organizers Cancel Event
Tiger Town organizers today announced that efforts to promote a pregame festival in downtown Columbia are being suspended due to a variety of factors, including a lack of adequate funding.
“Despite the hard work and support of people excited about the Tiger Town concept, we simply came up short of the financial commitments necessary to stage the event at the level we envisioned within our short timeframe,” said Tiger Town organizer Greg Steinhoff.
“We learned that hosting a first-time event like this takes a lot of lead time and costs a lot of money,” said Steinhoff. “Looking back, it took us substantially longer to define the event, leaving us less time to go and sell the event.”
Steinhoff said Tiger Town organizers were motivated by a desire to create a fun, welcoming venue where SEC visitors and area residents could share the excitement of a college football Saturday in Columbia. “We are encouraged that others in the community have adopted that vision and are actively developing ways to welcome visitors to town this fall,” he said.
“On behalf of Tiger Town organizers Bob Gerding and Rick Means, I want to sincerely thank all the people who understood the value of creating a new,
pregame community celebration and volunteered their time, energy and resources to move the idea forward,” said Steinhoff.
