The upgrades to the Boone County Courthouse Plaza are moving along quickly and it's looking fantastic.
A brick plaza has been laid in a semi circle around the columns, extending the brick crosswalks on Walnut and visually linking the Plaza to the Avenue of the Columns. The war memorials have been relocated in a semi-circle behind the columns, giving them a place of prominence. The former (and unused) fountain along the Bleu patio is now a flower garden and is banked by grass.
In fact, much of the work includes removing concrete--which created an unwelcoming area in the cold of winter and the heat of summer--with grass and landscaping. A total of 45 trees, 400 shrubs and ornamental grasses, and 1500 perennials will be planted in the Plaza.
Now that the Walnut Street side is nearly complete, crews are working on installing the permanent stage, the outdoor cafe and the gardens on the Ash Street side.
