Use Debit, Credit, Phone App, AND Coins on New Parking Meters

Columbia Public Works Parking Utility announces that on Monday, June 24, IPS Group will install new meter heads on South 9th Street from Broadway to Locust, and on both the north and south side of Broadway between 9th and 10th Streets.

These new meter heads are will accept coins as well as debit or credit cards. The meters will not accept the current EZ Park card. When paying by debit or credit card, there is a two hour minimum charge. Parking patrons wishing to pay less than the two hour charge may use coins.

The meters will also be capable of interacting through smart phones with an app from Mobile Park. Apps are available for all popular smart phones including iPhone, Android, Blackberry, and Windows phones. Park Mobile also offers a web based payment system as well. App users will also have the option of text or email notifications 15 minutes prior to their parking session expiring.

Apps can be downloaded from the following site - http://us.parkmobile.com/members/members-mobile-apps/.

The meter heads are being installed upon the recommendation of the Parking Task Force after a successful pilot project from early in 2012. The Parking Utility purchased a total of 120 meters, 117 to be installed and three for reserve at a cost of $62,400. The estimated return on investment is 2.5 years.
