Water line project closes section of Walnut

On Tuesday, July 24, starting at 6:00 a.m.,Columbia Water & Light will be removing water service lines on Walnut Street from College Avenue toOrr Street. The work will cause this section of Walnut Street to be closed to through traffic. Motorists will need to detour around this area using alternate routes. Water crews will be removing the water service lines for the four properties on the south side of Walnut before construction begins on a new apartment complex. The project is expected to be completed before the end of the day.

Several customers could have disruptions in their water service while the service lines are being removed. Due to the pressure drop in the main water line, a precautionary boil advisory for up to ten customers could be in effect for one day or until water testing results confirm that the water is safe to drink. Customers under a boil advisory will be notified through a hangtag on their doors. Once the construction work is completed, the main water line will be flushed. Customers in this area might notice a slight discoloration in their water. Customers that experience this problem should let the water run for a few minutes until the discoloration disappears.
